Our Veterinarians

The veterinarians of Best Friends Animal Hospital are committed to working with you to keep your pet(s) happy and healthy. This commitment drives them to make sure the hospital is equipped with the latest technology and medical protocols. Each veterinarian attends several continuing education seminars throughout the year to ensure the hospital is offering the highest quality medicine.

Dr. Linda George

Native to Southwest Florida, Dr. Linda George graduated with a Bachelor's in Biology from Florida State University. Her first exposure working in the field of veterinary medicine was as a kennel attendant and bather in a local practice. She graduated in 2000 from the University Of Florida College Of Veterinary Medicine.

After practicing for one year in central Florida, at the same practice where she also occasionally worked as a veterinary technician, Linda and her family moved to North Carolina. There she worked as a small animal veterinarian, while her husband pursued a Master's Degree. Being native Floridians, the experience of occasional snow flurries was welcomed and exciting.

In 2004, she and her family moved to Costa Rica and later Paraguay, South America. There, she was able to learn Spanish and interact with students and faculty at the national veterinary school. She also offered veterinary services to the outlying under-served areas.

In 2008, Linda and her family returned to Naples where she became the Medical Director of a local non-profit rescue organization and shelter. She has been deployed to two large scale hoarding and dog-fighting operations with the ASPCA. In 2014 she started at working at Best Friends Animal Hospital as a relief veterinarian and later became our managing DVM in 2016.

Dr. George enjoys spending time with her husband, three children, dog, and cat. She is actively involved in helping her husband in their Hispanic Ministry. She enjoys eating Mexican foods, spa pampering, the beach, traveling and visiting with her extended family in Southwest Florida. She dreams of one day visiting the shores of Santorini, Greece.

Dr. Jean Hedges

Dr. Jean Hedges graduated from Henderson State University in Arkansas with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. After finishing her undergrad, she attended Louisiana State University Veterinary School.

Her father was a Career Air Force Colonel and she has lived all over the world. She moved to Florida in 2014. Dr. Hedges moved to Fort Myers and joined our family at Best Friends Animal Hospital in 2017 as a full-time veterinarian.

She enjoys spending time with her husband and five rescue dogs, Darcy, Rocco, Jerry, Drago, and Coco. She grew up and worked with many horses, mainly Mustangs. It is on her bucket list to one day own a Friesian horse.

Dr. Sloan Elliott

Originally from Pennsylvania, Dr. Sloan Elliott graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s in Biology. Growing up, Dr. Elliott enjoyed caring for and showing Quarter Horses – a hobby that ultimately guided her towards a career as a Veterinarian. This, along with her passion for travel, prompted her to attend St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated in 2009. Since then, Sloan has enjoyed practicing primarily as a small animal Veterinarian – but ultimately, the thought of year-round sunshine prompted her to move to Florida with her husband. In 2018, Dr. Elliott joined Best Friends Animal Hospital as a full-time Veterinarian. In her spare time, Sloan enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her husband, cat, and three dogs.
